Laura Alphei

(she/her)

My artistic practice explores the theme of stigmatization and the positioning of female-coded bodies in a world deeply embedded with misogyny. The body stands at the core of my performance art, both surface and as a cage. It becomes the carrier of societal expectations, prejudices, and discrimination projected onto it. I examine the often contradictory roles assigned to me, and the tensions that arise when those identeties collide or exclude eachother. A key aspect of my work is engaging with the constant shift of societal norms and the responsibility of privileged individuals to continue and expand feminist achievments. The pressure and the often felt sense of powerlessness drive my work, creating a space of critical reflection on the self, society, and the ongoing negotiations surrounding identity and power.
